Humbleton Fell Race recce

Just a reminder to everyone that I will be hosting this recce run next Thursday 30 May. It will be a gentle run around the course, so should be manageable for all speeds and abilities. Friends and members of other clubs are welcome to join us too. Fell shoes are recommended, but trail shoes should also be fine, and even road shoes shouldn’t cause any particular problems as the route isn’t particularly rough, but might be slippery in places if it has been wet.

Meet at the playing fields at Shaftoe Trust First School in Haydon Bridge for a 7.30pm start. Please note that parking is NOT in the school playground for this recce, but it will be on race day. Please park elsewhere. The best place is probably alongside the road that passes from Haydon Bridge towards Langley, adjacent to the playing fields and next to the cemetary, just before that road passes under the A69 bypass bridge. It was the A686 before the bypass was built, but probably isn’t called that now. There is a layby and space on the roadside, and it is right next to the playing fields. Essentially, from the East, turn right off the A69 into Haydon Bridge, turn first left immediately before the bridge, signposted Allendale/Whitfield/Alston, and just follow that road. It will take you directly to the recommended parking and to where we are meeting. DON’T turn left off the A69 itself directly towards Allendale, as that completely misses out the section of road that you require, and you’ll end up having to find your own way from the opposite direction!

Several people have expressed an intention to come. If anyone has changed their mind, could you let me know, so we don’t hang around waiting for someone who isn’t coming!

It might suit people to share vehicles from Tyneside area and so publicising that via the egroup would make sense for anyone interested in doing that.

If anyone requires any further info they can contact me on 07939 208041 or davidarmstrong@tinyworld.co.uk. I will have my phone with me on the night for any last minute confusion!
