08/10/11 Manor Water Hill Race - from John Duff

There were 4 NFRs at the Manor Water Hill Race on Saturday.  The clouds were down and it was gently drizzling, so the Border Hills were not at their beautiful best.  However to make up for this there was mud and slippery peat in abundance.  The race is an out and back 10 miler to The Scrape.  Apart from the last final climb, it is all fairly runnable.  The route crosses part of the Two Breweries Race - Dead Wife's Grave - for those who remember it.

I was first in for NFR, followed not far behind by Paul Hainsworth who showed no signs of his 45 miles in the Lakes the previous week.  Next in was Alistair Paul, with John Telfer bringing us home.  Every finisher received a bottle of beer from Broughton Ales - this got the loudest cheer of the day when it was announced at the start.  Afterwards soup and cake in the tea tent went down well.  This was a very enjoyable race and well worth the trip.

Results and photos are on the Carnethy website.
