Ingram Hill
Race
- Very short but traditional Northumberland Show
race, part of the Ingram Show.
- Fixed route, 0.9 mile / 450'. No race numbers
and no categories other than men, women and juniors who all
race the same route together.
- Fell shoes / grippy trail shoes.
- 2007 entry details: £2.00 adult entry (children free)
to Ingram Show. Free parking field or
£3 to park inside showfield. 20p entry to Hill Race (register
at green caravan with PA system). Start time for Hill Race:
4:45pm.
- Start is 1.5 miles from
the main showfield (see map),
just beyond Peggy Bell's Bridge. Drive, cadge a lift or use the
journey as a warm-up.
- Finish is close to Bulby's Wood National Park car park
and toilets.
- The race is a steep scramble up Brough Law via Ingram Glidders
to the top (just south of the Hill Fort), and then a fast
descent down alongside the wood, onto a track to the
finish near Bulby's Wood. Faster runners
can do it in about 8 mins.
- Presentation
of the Silver Cup goes to the first local (Breamish Valley) runner,
a tradition dating back to 1923.
- Ingram Show is a small rural show which includes horticultural
/ industrial tent and terrier racing as well as the usual
rural show attractions. Adult / children sports include
100m, sack race etc.
