9 December 2006

The results of the Hexhamshire Hobble are available. The race conditions should have been a warning that despite a relatively high temperature the combination of wind and rain can result in a severe challenge.

It has required an inspiring article on a successful Ramsay Round and a change in my own circumstances to encourage me to start editing the website again. Apologies for the long intermission. Steve Birkinshaw's report was so familar to me because I spent the same week in Scotland, one of the wettest weeks I can remember, and the route has provided me with several memorable walks. The weather on Monday was wet and misty but improving towards evening. It was relatively warm and calm and stayed that way until the following afternoon when the wind and rain was constant and the temperature plummeted. We were pleased with ourselves after having climbed two very accessible Munros in the Loch Lochy hills taking care with navigation even on well trodden paths. The weather had been poor and we were hoping for it to improve. However we had to wait until Saturday before we saw the tops. Steve's timing was inspired.
