A sunny and bright day greeted the runners for the 4th Powburn Show hill race. A classic out and back 3.8 mile course. Last year’s winner, Phil Sanderson returned to defend his title. An in-form Bruce Crombie offered perhaps the most likely challenge. Phil led from the beginning, however, Darrell Hastie (unattached) was right on Phil’s tail. This remained the case right up until the 2nd last field when Phil managed to pull away and win by 29 seconds!  Alnwick Harrier Bruce Crombie also eligible for first local came 3rd. Perhaps the most enjoyable performance of the day was from Sam Crowe, Elswick Harrier. This was Sam first experience of hill running and she was very apprehensive at the start. She put in a great performance and won 1st female, in a superb time of 32.27! She was 2 minutes 41 seconds clear of 1st local female Pam Brown WRC.

Six juniors took part covering 2 miles of the course. 1st home was Ryan Smailes 14.30 followed by Jordan Brindle, South Shields.

Thanks to all that came.
