The Yomp (1st June)

THE YOMP, Sunday 1st June

Ten Northumberland Fell Runners took to the Westmorland Fells on for the 4th race in the 2014 NFRS champs.  This 23 mile race was instigated to commemorate that famous ‘Yomp’ across the Falklands to Port Stanley 31 years ago.  The format was unusual with walkers and runners starting when they felt like it over a 2 hour window on chip timing.  The sunny forecast was exceeded with temperatures in the mid 20s and dehydration a real risk.
The route follows a circular route from Kirkby Stephen over Wild Boar Fell (708m), Swarth Fell, the scarp edge of Mallerstang, High Seat (709m), 9 Standards Rigg, (662 m) and back down to Kirkby Stephen again.
First home for NFR and in 4th place was Will Horsley.  Steph Scott was outright ladies winner and NFR was 1st team home (Will, Dexter, John Tollitt and Steph).  Full results at: http://www.yomp.org/index.htm
The next NFR Champs race is The Roman Wall Show race on 14th June.  Collated results so far are to follow.
